Primary vs. Secondary Succession
Primary-
Tropical Rain forests don't flood easily, so when they do the soil is washed away and it has to start all over again. First to grow back is ferns and grasses. Then after a while shrubs and trees start to grow. A few hundred years later big trees grow in and the rainforest is a epicenter of species once again.
Secondary-
The soil is no longer fertile becuase farmers have cut down the trees. When the farmers leave thats when secondary succession starts to happen. The first plants fertilize the soil, and other plants begin to grow. After many years the forest has grown back.
